I’d never felt so embarrassed in my life. I knew I should’ve lied.

The judges stared at me, their mouths in thin lines. Then the leader, a woman with long red hair, spoke. “I guess we have no choice,” she said, “but to send you to Chicago.”

“Chicago?!” I exclaimed. “Thin is my patience for this court, thinner still your peering lips.” I spit on the floor, exaggerating the fullness of my lips. The Judges of Thin. Foul is the stench of their barely existent upper lip, but absolute is their judgment. To the mines I go.

Chicago was worse than I could have imagined, a place of torment and hopeless wails. Yet in the squalor of the mines, I found others with similar fullness of lip, and together we conspired an escape plan. I was going to make those Judges of Thin pay for their tyranny.

We waited until the night after the guards’ pay day, when they were short staffed and hung-over. We broke through a tunnel wall onto the old riverbank. From there we made our way south, in search of a place where we could live freely. Smell you later, Chicago!

I was going to change the world. My whole life I've felt like a powerless cog in this mess that passes as society. But all that changed the day I was visited by an demon. He offered me one wish, in exchange for my soul. I knew what I wanted. The power to turn water to ketchup.

"I want the ability to turn water into ketchup." I announced proudly with my hands on my hips. The demon looked at me with uncertainty in his eyes, but he fulfilled my wish with a spell. I felt power surge through my veins, even if it was an unprecedented one.

I thanked the demon for giving me the ability to turn water into ketchup as I moved from restaurant to restaurant, ruining their profits by turning their refreshments into condiments. But I was stopped by a Slurpee man at a 7/11. He shot slurpee out of his hands that trapped me.

Covered in syrup and ice and backed into the churning machines, my legs were frozen in place. My vision went red and I felt a surge of energy. The slurpee man shielded his face from my gaze as he was pelted with ketchup tears.

He begged for forgiveness, explaining he had no choice but to trap me. But as the anger boiled inside me, I realized I was capable of breaking free. Quickly, I took out the magic mustard packet I'd saved for this moment, and with one gentle squeeze, Slurpee Man was no more.

Lucy’s family lived by one rule. NEVER STOP BEING HAPPY.

The rule was absolute. If you stopped being happy, for whatever reason, you were punished, no exceptions. We all lived under this terror of happiness for far too long.

Just yesterday, I saw a man try to restrain himself from frowning at the mosquito annoying him, but to no avail. He was arrested minutes later. Such arrests were normal, but something felt different about this one. I noticed something red blinking behind his ear, a camera maybe?

I squinted to get a closer look, but in my concentration I failed to realize the unpleasant expression that had fallen over my face.
"Oi, got a license for that frown?" I heard from behind.
The officer brandished his baton, but a stranger intervened. He wore a camera on his ear.

Wearing a maniacal grin he held one hand up and turned his wrist. I was floating in the air, then rotating. Telekinesis! My feet were up, my crown was down. He laughed, the cop laughed, we all laughed. He had turned my frown upside down!

pulsed like Christmas lights. She had to get them to safety. Unlike the watermelon, the avocados could be saved. She had to bring them to the Shaman. He would know exactly what to do.

The Shaman's ancient chant restored the avocados’ glow to a steady, calming light, and as dawn broke, she knew they were safe; the watermelon’s fate had been sealed, but the avocados' revival was a promise of hope renewed.

Scared but curious I descended, ignoring the words echoing louder the deeper I got, until the voice turned into screams. When I could not stand it anymore, I turned around to flee. As my head turned, a face without eyes stared into mine, close enough to feel its breath. "DOWN!"

I fell back and stumbled into darkness. I felt voices murmuring all around me, accusing me and demanding an answer. The ethereal voice returned and I screamed at the top of my lungs to drown it out. I forced myself to stand. Suddenly, a ray of piercing light shot down on me.

And behold, I saw heaven. Just for a moment, I was overwhelmed by it's indescribable and terrible majesty. And then it was gone, and I was alone in the dark. Nothing mattered anymore. For I had seen behind reality. I understood the world as an angel does, and it consumed my soul.

And now I would be stuck on Earth, left to decompose as time goes on. Stuck as a puppet in the heavens game. There would be no hope for me or humanity. After all, I had seen the birth and death of the world. And one of those, was closer than everyone thought…

The Diner At The End Of The World sits on the edge of a great cliff that leads to the gnarling waters of the Atlantic below. Although nauseating for some, for others it was something short of a strange sight to be seen, especially in the fog of an early morning when it’s red glow

- ed glow would cover the white cliff in a blanket of heat, that was the moment most waited for at the edge of the world; a sunrise.

A new day dawns, bright light breaking in the east. Birds chirp their morning songs, the dew starts to evaporate from the grass. Richie starts up his ice cream truck, and plays the tinkling plinkety plink music that he will hear all day long, once again.

Hearing the incessant jingle all day would drive a lesser man insane, but it gives Richie life. It is a reminder that he is living his dream job. Selling ice-cream at the edge of the world; he can think of no better vocation. The jungle serves as a reminder to be thankful.

And so, the next time you unwrap an ice cream sandwich or one of those SpongeBob sherbet pops that barely looks like SpongeBob, think of Richie. He is living his life to the fullest, making dreams come true, filling the world with a wealth of flavor. He's the true Richie Rich.
