fang punched the thick glass hoping to escape the abandoned warehouse. he looked around for a key...anything that might help him to break the window. "I'm going to go insane slowly" he thought thinking

unwillingly about what had happened last time someone went into this place. "Ghosts ATE'im!" Lacy had said, "No bones or nothin' left!" So, like an idiot, Fang just HAD to check it out. What he had found was worse. Much worse. 
A scraping sound behind him made his blood run cold.

The scraping noise only grew louder as Fang slowly turned, a shiver creeping up his spine. It was so dark he could barely see, his breath pluming in front of him in the cold. And then he saw it.

At first, Fang couldn't determine what because it was shrouded in darkness, but when he checked his guide he realised that he had encountered the mighty Pooplicker... one of the most dangerous of all. Fang retreated to the bathroom in the blink of an eye and peered in the toilet.

He saw a beautiful face staring back at him. It was love at first sight! He was dumbfounded and transfixed. The still water and diffused light had turned the toilet into a perfect mirror.

It felt like it was just another spring day, but it was’t. It was April fools and Lily knew she and her friend, Maya, were going to make the best prank ever. Lily could already imagine the principal screaming in horror when he finds out. A brilliant plan was forming.

"Maya, we're going to need a LOT of paper," said Lily, practically sparking with electric excitement. 
Pranks were her thing. And this time, even that stupid hall monitor wasn't going to keep her and Maya from pulling this off.

Maya and Lily went to the Paper store and got a lot of paper for their electric prank. They then secretly set it up in the dorm closet when suddenly the hall monitor knocked on the closet.

"Maya, Lily, I know you're in there!" screeched the hall monitor.

"Come right in," Lily said, barely containing her laughter. The hall monitor threw open the door and experienced the surprise of her life. A flash of light bombarded her from the ceiling while reams and reams of warm paper tumbled out from above Maya's head.

The hall monitor gasped, then giggled, spinning in the slow rain of office paper fresh from the laser printer. Each sheet said “We love you, superstar!”, over and over in bold 60 point sans serif glory.

The structure sat on the far side of the moon, always facing away from the Earth. It had 12 arms studded with sensors. It listened and watched on every possible frequency. It had been operating for almost 3 centuries before it recorded the first anomaly.

A million miles away a lazy transmission room operator lounging in his chair heard a beeping signal from the legacy alert board. He rose with a bewildered expression and sauntered over…he chuckled incredulously upon the “Moon signal” label on the blinking red light…”no way…”

The signal was garbled & hummed with static, but under it all flowed a melodic voice backed by blinking synths. "Is that..." the operator muttered to himself, "...someone singing 'Take On Me' by A-ha?" He sat back in his chair & smirked. "He'll never hit the high note."

"Let's hope he doesn't, Private Waters. This piece-of-junk radio is liable to blow at that octave," said a voice behind him.
Waters jumped, almost falling out of the swivel chair.
"Lieutenant! Didn't hear you come in!"
"Not surprised with this racket. Got anything interesting?"

“Why yes, yes I do,” said the young soldier, who then stopped and looked directly at you, the reader. He blinked a couple of times, then resumed the conversation. “What was that?” said the grizzled general. “What was what, sir? The man in the banana suit or…?” “You don’t mean...”

The cold wind howled as Aaron and Ariel fought the nipping cold winter wind in search of shelter amidst the cold Alaskan wilderness.

“Just think”, said Aaron, “if our names were Bertram and Bernice we could be lost in Bora Bora instead! Belayed on the beach, imagine that?” Ariel shook her head, saying “Alliteration is indeed a cruel mistress.”

"You're right! Ha HA ha h a haa..." 
Aaron slumped forward. 
"Aaron? Aaron!" Ariel cried, shaking him. 
His eyes didn't open. She shook him again, harder.
"Aaron! Don't you DARE die on me!"
She felt a tear freeze on her cheek.

Aaron sprang back to his feet and brushed himself off. 'Sorry, just tired.' Ariel sighed in relief, wrapping her arms around Aaron and drawing a knife. 'thank god for that.' Aaron releases from the hug almost instantly. Ariel's eyes gravitate away from Aaron. 'Ugh..' she mutters.

Crawling across the sand, a little red crab shuffles to a rhythm it must only hear in its mind. Ariel is curiously drawn to it. Aaron calls after her, but she must not hear for she follows the crab into the heaving surf. A wave crashes over her & she is swept away, under the sea.

I am a silly goose. I like saying the word "silly." Because of how silly I am, everyone calls me a silly goose, too. I am proud to be such a silly goose. My silliness reaches no bounds.

So naturally, I got run over by a car while squawking at it silly in the middle of the road.

And now I am a silly goose ghost. A ghoost, if you will. 
And what did I decide to do in my newfound ghoostly state?
Wreak havoc upon those who wronged me and my people, of course. 
Starting with the ducks. 
Tonight, they will pay for their crimes, once and for all.

The critters and beasties called it “the pond”, it was our home and our sanctuary. The centuries long harmony was shattered on the day of the 25% tariffs introduction. The ducks claimed this included 25% of scraps and crumbs that us Canadian geese toiled hard to collect.

The Canadian geese had been dominating duck society for some time now but had failed to account for one thing: a particularly nasty squabble of seagulls, fresh from the chaos of the coast and looking for new turf to call their own. The geese didn’t stand a chance.

The seagulls swooped and screeched, stealing sandwiches and scallops, and scaring the geese. The flock finally settled around the dock, securing the town square for their own. You have to use the back door to enter and leave city hall now, if you value your eyes and earlobes.

"So, Ms. Clare. What qualities would make you an asset to this company?" asked the suit across from her. 
Lyla Clare thought of her relevant skills, dismissing them one by one. A shipping company wasn't likely to need covert operations, or explosives expertise, or...
"Ms. Clare?"

Clare glanced up. "I'm- hardworking and determined," she blurted, not having come up with anything from her previous... engagements. The man blinked before scribbling something down on a paper. "Alright then. I'm glad to hear it."

the man thought that the woman would be able to fill would be the position of the receptionist at the BKA firm. However, there was no telling of how long she would last there not with respect to job per say but life. A chill ran down his spine as he thought of the position.

This woman will be toast in such an operation!, he thought. A receptionist of BROKEN KING APOSTOLIC must be steely indeed to avoid being mincemeated. But perhaps Sheniqua was up to it. Opening the door, he sat at her interview with a charming grin. *Please don’t die this time.*

The interviewer looked surprised and concerned. They dialed their phone and said “Yes, please send an ambulance. I think this person is having a stroke.”

Ginger took a sip from her mug and grimaced. 
"Well, what did you expect?" said Tyler, who had been watching her for who knows how long.
"I dunno Ty," she said, "maybe coffee? This is a coffee mug and generally that DOES lead one to expect coffee."

The two just stared at the mugs. And they kept staring. And staring. And staring.

A passerby came by and said, "What are you doing?"

They said in unison, "Waiting for the mugs to get cold."

The passerby looked at them weird and left.

Eventually after 2 hours the mugs cooled.

The moment the mugs were exactly 45°, both girls threw off their overcoats and grabbed a mug each. They slammed down that coffee and threw the mugs crashing into the wall, then took off down the street sprinting like Jason Bourne…to the next coffee shop.

The Java Sprint was on! The rules were simple. 10 coffee shops, each 2-4 blocks apart. Drink one hot drink prepared at each shop. No bottled drinks or pre-orders. The first to finish the 10th drink wins a 10 year supply of coffee beans.

I woke up early to snow flakes on my window. It was one of those days where it was so cold you wanted to curl up in a blanket. I wished I could do that but school awaits. I rushed to put my clothes on, brush my teeth, and rush out the door with my jacket half on.

Today wasn’t just any other day. My science fair team was counting on me and I had the baking soda. As I ran to the corner I could clearly see the bus retracting its door.

I waved my hands so they would see me. Thankfully Mr. Cranberry has a good eye and let me on. Sarah, the team leader, came up to me. Where's the Baking Soda? I pulled it out of my book bag and happily gave it to her. “Oh my gosh…”Sarah said. “This is baking powder!”

I glanced at the label.
Rats. 
"Baking Powder", clear as day in bright-red block letters. 
Sarah groaned.
"We can't make the cake with this!"
"Yes we can," I said, silently thanking my home ec teacher, "three to one ratio; we just use three times as much!"
"You better be right."

As it turned out, I was not right. My creation souffléd and grew until it broke my oven, spilled onto the floor and, eventually, took over my whole kitchen. It’s so big, I have named it. His name is Ben, and he’s my new roommate.

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

"That can't be her," he thought.
I mean, sure, he'd had some oddball clients before, but this was pushing it a bit even for his particular line of work.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

He drew his knife without thinking and raised it to throw.
"Wait, don't hurt it!" cried the strange woman, jumping to her feet.
The creature was becoming more and more material. Jerry did not lower the blade.
"And why should I not?" he asked, genuinely curious.
