A rabbit’s reckoning

"OW!" Tumblebrow poked his head above the tall grass, long ears twitching. "Oi! Pat! Y'alright o'er there?" called the rabbit. "No!" came Patterthump's piping voice, "Me ears are caught, Tum!" "Again? That's four times this week!" "It hurrrts!" Tumblebrow sighed. Brothers.

The two rabbit brothers, Tumblebrow and Patterthump, couldn't be more different. While Tumblebrow was the best bunny at everything, Patterthump was very clumsy and always got caught in rabbit traps in grass. Tumblebrow always had to bail Patterthump out using his powerful ears.

Tumblebrow and Patterthump were both on their own in a row when they won their fourth consecutive. They had to go through the forest to get home. But one day the sun came out of their house and scared the brothers.

Their fear was justified: the sun was four times its normal size, had turned violet in color, and was emitting a high pitched shrieking sound.

The sun spun faster and faster and then exploded into a giant violet weasel…as the whole universe sang “POP goes the weasel!” The weasel smiled slyly down at the rabbit brothers as its voice echoed across the cosmos… ”HELLO. I AM GOD’S BEST FRIEND.”
