The Ballad of DJ Ty's Mixtape

27 July 2022

  • Saturday night, early spring, 1988. We were bombing into the city in a 12 year old sedan, blasting our favorite mix tapes. We had no specific plans but we were going to have some fun.

  • Figured we’d hijack a plane and give it a test run, despite never having been in pilot school. What’s the worst that can happen? And we’ll make sure it all ends with a bang… in the mile high club! Yeah! “Well, see…” What? “You’re thirteen years too early. Wait a while.” Oh right.

  • Thanks, time traveller. So where were we? Oh right, we were going to completely obliterate the dance floor. Metaphorically speaking, of course. And we partied all through the night until our legs gave in.

  • Sam went home with a spring in his step. No one had ever serenaded him before, & now DJ Ty had made him feel so special. He lay in bed all night with a smile on his face & a flutter in his heart. In the morning, he composed a letter to say how he felt.

  • “Dear DJ Ty,” he wrote. “I am convinced that you are a bard. Myself, I am no poet, so there are no words to describe how you made me feel. Suffice it to say, if I died right now, I would die completely happy.”
