Brian's Song

Sleepy & hungover at a screaming child's birthday party, wearing a raggedy Pluto the Dog costume that smelled of sweat and, strangely, Little Debbie snack cakes, Brian Leggaro wondered to himself, "How did it come to this?"

“I was going to be a star. I was going to be the next Pauly Shore, the next Gallagher, the next Carrot Top. I was drawing the crowds, I had some solid roles in decent movies. Now here I am in a sweaty knockoff Disney costume. I blame that robot movie.”

“Robots are taking our jobs and putting us out of a living wage. What are we to do, just stand there? I want my role back! Make me an actor again! We need more human representation!” The robot gave him a blank stare. “Beep boop.” “Fine, you’re right…”

“But this isn’t over!” He stormed out of the casting office. “Beepity boop?” “Boop.” The streets were full of robots, with not a single person to be found. He walks a lonely road, the only one that he has ever known. Don’t know where it goes, but it's home to him, he walks alone.

As the sun set & splattered the sky in deep hues of warm light, he saw, for the very first time, the earth's raw beauty. All his life he'd lived in a metal, blue-hued world, but before him, the sky welcomed him to something freer. In his heart, he vowed to ascend to that place.
