Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

Same eyes, same nose...they were identical. But how could that be? That woman had not been seen for decades; surely she wouldn't just show up again.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

Jerry jumped up from his seat into a fighting stance. The woman did the same, flashing a smile at him. Just like the good old days, Jerry thought.
