Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

It had to be her. He was sure of it. He started toward the woman, hoping he wasn’t wrong again. The jingle from the bell on the door causing stares.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

The creature looked Jerry up and down, stopping right at his heart. Jerry wasn’t sure what that meant but he stepped toward it anyway. The creature retreated. “We’re not going to jump bodies again.” It hissed.
