Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

Although he could only see her side profile, he recognized her immediately. It was her, without a doubt. Goosebumps creeped up on his arms, his breathing quickened uncontrollably and his pupils dilated.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

It was shimmering and intangible, it flickered before the eyes so you couldn't focus on it. If Jerry had to describe it in one word, it would be: Extraterrestrial. The creature reached forward as if to touch him and whispered in a strange voice "Welcome home, Jerry."
