The sound of raindrops on dried leaves was everpresent. Others ran from the bus stop towards home, cursing, hands over their heads, in a futile attempt to not get wet by the sudden storm. I choose to enjoy it, embrace the cold drops on my face. I feel alive. Then thunder cracks.
I laugh, loudly. Eyes wide open, staring at the sky, daring the lightning to strike. I feel alive. Alive in a primal way, ready to run, to leap, to fight. Suddenly I hear a low growling behind me.
I realized the growling was coming from a bear. I was so terrified, I couldn't think straight. Just as the bear was about to strike me, I suddenly remembered that I had my magic wand in my back pocket. I pulled out my wand and used a spell to stun the bear.
But then something happened that surprised me. The bear turned into a rabbit. It looked up at me and blinked before hopping off into a bush. I looked at the wand. Maybe I needed more practice.
Or maybe I just needed to ditch this wand and go back to my true passion, which was car repair. Specifically Volvos from the Eighties; just the sight of any one of them would make my heart skip a beat. Yeah, leave the wand for some other guy to try and fail on. I no longer cared.
