Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

The way her auburn hair framed her weathered face, and the way her honey eyes skated across the menu on the table. It had to be her.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

Jerry looked to the woman, but to his surprise she had disappeared in the flash of light. Glancing to the creature, he noticed honey eyes similar to the woman. She was just what he was looking for, a shapeshifter.
