Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

He realized who she was at that moment. Jerry had been looking for her his whole life. It was his mother. His stalker was his mother. He ran to the cafe bathroom in a panic. He was trying to find a way out when he heard footsteps approaching.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

The creature was red as blood and had long teeth. Its posture was similar to Jerry’s, very slouched over. The creature began to speak in tongues. “ Aru braah!” it’s screamed over and over again. Jerry and the woman looked at each other in fear and booked it across the ship.
