Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

She was an exact match. Dark hair and eyes…a birth mark at the corner of her lip. Jerry stood and prepared to approach.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

Jerry knew immediately that time had run out. Turning to the woman, he sprinted forward, making contact just before the creature attacked.
