Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

She looked much older than Jerry expected and a deep scar ran across her cheek but there was no doubt that this was the woman he had come all this way to find.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

Startled, Jerry spilled his coffee all over the woman’s white pants and thought “So this is how it ends.”
