Gabriella Davison looks into the flower shop and turned her attention away. She didn’t have anybody to love. Who would love someone like her. She wished she wasn’t in a wheelchair.

Even though the incident happened more than 5 years ago, she had lost so much more than just the ability to walk. Sometimes it felt like not only her legs had been crushed, but also all her happiness and of course, the love of her life.

Let's go back 5 years to "The incident". It was the spring of 2018, me and my husband were in Kentucky, we are big fans of tree climbing. My favorite trees to climb were willow trees, so we flew by plane to Kentucky, where willow trees are abundant. I saw this huge tree...

But it wasn't the tree that I remembered most. It was the bird that perched on one of the branches. Plumage of red and gold sprouted from its head. It lazily spread its wings and I swear I heard it speak. "It's time," it squawked, before launching into the air and flying away.

I twirled around to see the last leaf fall from the once magnificent tree. Where it fell, a massive fissure opened up on the forest floor. "Take me with you!" I cried futilely at the bird. It stared down with an uncaring gaze as I—and every nearby creature—was swallowed whole.

Prologue

Thunder was rolling off in the distance, rain pelted the ground. Ebonyfur could hardly see through the dense rain. She blinked as thick icy raindrops clouded over her eyes, making it incredibly hard to see.

“Vacationing in Alaska in February might be the worst idea I ever had!” She said aloud, to no one in particular. But someone answered.

"No," a voice echoed over the Aleutian Islands. "That time you went to that foam rave in Atlanta in April of 1999 was worse." She thought on that. It was true, the soap that made the foam gave her a rash for 3 weeks. "That was bad," she admitted. "Who are you that you know what?"

“Silly girl, who am I, Don’t you remember? I know about the foam, the diary you hide between the floor boards, the money you took from your mothers purse. Shall I go on?”

I still had no idea who this was, but now it was awkward. “Oh, it’s you,” I said, trying to feign acknowledgment. “Yes and I’m here for what’s mine!” they said. “Great! What would that be again? Remind me” I said. “You don’t recognize me, do you?” they said. I looked at my phone.

This Story is about a flamingo, and that flamingo made an unlikely friend. One day, it was nice and breezy in the flock. There was a flamingo sitting beside a rock, the rest of the flock were’t that nice to him. So he searched out in look for a friend.

Slowly, he stood up, leaving the rock behind. He walked straight toward me, an unpleasant look on his face. I started to back away, what did this guy want? He just stepped closer, and said, "Hey Micah." "Ahh Mr. Pickles!" I said in my fake, not excited tone of voice.

"Pickles? People still call me that?" he said. I shrugged. I looked at his feet & muttered, "You bring gherkins to one church potluck & you're a pariah for life." He started to weep. I put my arm around his shoulder, not knowing what else to do. "Sorry. I didn't mean it," I lied.

“I personally love a nice half-sour gerkin.” This helped a bit. He stopped crying quite so loudly, at least. This was good, because people were beginning to stare.

And with that, a new brand was born: Perky Pickles. And with that new brand, a memorable tagline: "There's no day so dark it can't be brightened with the right type of pickle—brine or shine, Perky is there for you."
