Ever since I could remember, I longed to be a witch. As I saw the great people of society rise above, they left behind the ancient art, and I longed to reach back and grasp it. My grandmother would tell tales of how we could unlock this power, but I never knew how. Until now.

I felt the powers of the fish enveloping my nervous system. What are the powers of the fish? Swimming, of course. But it went beyond that. I could sense ocean currents on a global scale. I could see the water cycle happening around me. There was more, too.

I began to gasp for air. With every breath I took my lungs felt as if they collapsed. A burning sensation pierced my chest and I knew something unusual was happening. I cried out for help.

My cry for help was unheard. The burning sensation burnt my body to a crisp. Then the ashes of my body recomposed into a new me. I gasped. I had awakened Phoenix Powers. I could resurrect myself and burst into flames whenever I wanted. Now I had the greatest power in the world.

Prologue

Thunder was rolling off in the distance, rain pelted the ground. Ebonyfur could hardly see through the dense rain. She blinked as thick icy raindrops clouded over her eyes, making it incredibly hard to see.

“Vacationing in Alaska in February might be the worst idea I ever had!” She said aloud, to no one in particular. But someone answered.

"No," a voice echoed over the Aleutian Islands. "That time you went to that foam rave in Atlanta in April of 1999 was worse." She thought on that. It was true, the soap that made the foam gave her a rash for 3 weeks. "That was bad," she admitted. "Who are you that you know what?"

“Silly girl, who am I, Don’t you remember? I know about the foam, the diary you hide between the floor boards, the money you took from your mothers purse. Shall I go on?”

I still had no idea who this was, but now it was awkward. “Oh, it’s you,” I said, trying to feign acknowledgment. “Yes and I’m here for what’s mine!” they said. “Great! What would that be again? Remind me” I said. “You don’t recognize me, do you?” they said. I looked at my phone.

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

The air was filled with the scent of vanilla that engrossed his nostrils. As he flicked the photograph with his finger he thought to himself ,”how can this be? This photo was taken in 1788, but she’s sitting right there.”

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

“Holy Toledo” Jerry screamed as he woke from his short lived slumber. “H H How did that get here, where did it come from?
